These recordings of the great Thelonious Monk were recorded at The Newport Jazz Festival on the 3rd of July 1963. The personnel of the group consists as follows: Charli Rouse tenor saxophone, Butch Warren bass, Frankie Dunlop drums and of course Thelonious Monk at the piano. Although the CD features only five tracks each of them is long enough to allow the musicians to immerse themselves in the nature of each tune and with a playing time of just under fifty minutes represents good value for money and is sure to delight jazz enthusiasts and those hearing this great music for the first time.
