LXXXVIII incorporates the game of chess both thematically and artistically, as seen in the track titles corresponding to moves on a chess board and with Actress noting that “different tracks elicited different responses & determined the move they proposed back to me.”

Kaskade and deadmau5 first partnered on their 2008 smash “I Remember,”—heralded by Rolling Stone as one of the top100 dance music tracks of all time. 14 years later, the duo has formalized their occasional collaborations and long-running friendship into an official project, Kx5, with a self-titled album that carries on the genre-defining spirit of their early work with the additional excellence that comes from a decade and a half of studio and onstage experience for each. Those “different things” are evident in the evolving sound of Kx5 since the release of “Escape.” The debut single carried on the tradition of sleek melodic house music first heard on “I Remember”, securing significant Top 40 radio play and eventually becoming the #1 dance track of the year in 2022. However it was just the starting point for months of sonic exploration that resulted in tougher-sounding songs like “Alive” featuring The Moth & The Flame (TMTF), “Avalanche” and “Take Me High.” The record is a double LP featured on gold vinyl.

Slugs of Love [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Orange, Black & Blue Splatter LP]
Vinyl: $30.99 Buy
The iconic Swedish 4-piece Little Dragon – spearheaded by vocalist Yukimi Nagano – return with a new and utterly beguiling blend of avant pop on their album “Slugs of Love” on Ninja Tune, inviting outright legend Damon Albarn (Gorillaz, Blur) and rapper JID (J Cole / Dreamville) for collabs. The universally loved and GRAMMY-nominated band paved the way for the likes of Billie Eilish, Steve Lacy, Solange and The Internet with their experimental and utterly compelling approach to pop music, inspiring the new generation to push boundaries and explore new sonic territories. Unsurprisingly then, Little Dragon are referenced as the benchmark for electronic pop by a host of totemic artists such as Tyler The Creator, Kaytranada and Anderson .Paak.

For a duo whose youthful energy rejuvenated the world of house music at the start of the 2010s, it seems incredible that Disclosure are now into their second decade of musical life. The incredible vigour of those early records, the spark of invention and ever-onward musical thrust, remains with the Disclosure brothers, Howard and Guy Lawrence, to this day.
The emphasis throughout DJ-Kicks is on motion. After a brief ambient introduction from Pépe's Life Signs, Disclosure keep the energy high, in a mix that showcases the wonderful malleability of a house beat in the right hands. From sub bass to disco samples, African funk to 303 tweak, all is welcome in Disclosure's house, with the mix allowing individual songs space to breath even as the pace remains harefooted.
The desire for change stirs from the inside. We either listen to it-or not. Aluna chose to listen. In 2014, Dan Snaith aka Caribou released Our Love to overwhelming critical acclaim. Caribou returns now with his new studio album Suddenly, a warm, untamable, and constantly surprising record about family and the changes we go through as those relationships evolve. Most prominently, Suddenly refers to the moments of dramatic and unexpected change that occur at points in any life and within any family-universal themes that can catch you off guard and change your life in a heartbeat. Those dramatic moments are part of a slower process. These moments rear their heads, for good or bad, during the everyday flow of life. "There's a tension between those sudden things which blindside you and the more glacial, gradual day-to-day changes," he observes. "We are so caught up in the immediate-the details that require our attention every day-that we can be blind to the bigger forces shaping us. That's why so often when something drastic happens suddenly, it catalyzes all sorts of changes in our lives. Our perspective shifts." Suddenly is in the music, too. This is the most surprising and unpredictable Caribou album to date. Though it retains the trademark Caribou warmth and technicolor, this album is littered with swerves and left turns. "I wanted to balance the familiar-the sound that people associate with my music-against these moments of surprise," Snaith says. As his passion and joy in music-making remains as fresh as ever, Suddenly is the purest example of this yet.
With a hugely impressive 1.3 million combined album sales under their belt, Tycho are the two-time Grammy nominated electronic music project led by Scott Hansen as primary composer, songwriter and producer. Respected for both their musical output and Scott’s graphic design work, under the ISO50 moniker, Tycho has produced and released a hugely successful back catalogue which has drawn comparisons to the likes of Boards of Canada (“To get a sense of their sound, think the same kind of detail-oriented work and continuity of style that made Boards of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss revered artists in their field.” - Exclaim!) and resulted in a 2017 and 2020 Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album for ‘Epoch’ and ‘Weather’, respectively.
‘Simulcast’ follows Tycho’s studio album ‘Weather’ and features highly anticipated instrumental versions of ‘Weather’ albums tracks, previously vocal-led by singer-songwriter Saint Sinner. Tycho have gone back to the studio and recorded alternative versions of those original recordings, creating new material from those much loved tracks, while taking a bold step towards their classic sound. This is an unmissable release for any Tycho fan. ‘Simulcast’ will be available on Mom + Pop Music in the US and Ninja Tune worldwide.
Grimes started producing music when she had to learn the program Logic for her neuroscience class. Shortly thereafter she had a viral myspace page, which allowed her to start booking shows and focus full-time on music. She lived in a crack den in Montreal with no heat (where she got frostbite twice and her neighbor was bludgeoned to death in the hallway), playing raves until her 2012 breakout, Visions, which was recorded during a 2 week speed binge wherein she did not leave her bedroom. Upon the success of this album, Grimes attempted to enter society as a regular human, which has clearly not gone super well but has nonetheless been entertaining. She’s since become an award winning music video director as well as a music writer, producer, engineer, singer-songwriter. She’s toured globally to sold out crowds, headlined festivals, and is now moving into the space of corporate surrealism. She recently had experimental eye surgery only available to the upper class. She is putting out her final earth album February 21st 2020.
