What's New 11-4-22
Love Songs for Losers encompasses everything from arena-ready rock anthems to the gorgeously sprawling Americana tunes the band refers to as little redneck symphonies. It’s an intimate meditation on the pain and joy and ineffable wonder of being human, at turns profoundly heartbreaking and sublimely transcendent.
Billy Joel’s legendary 1990 concert at Yankee Stadium stands as one of the greatest concert films of all time. The newly edited version includes a never-before-released performance of “Uptown Girl” along with interviews from Billy and behind-the-scenes footage from the event’s production - all live from the ionic stadium in The Bronx.
Baxter holed up for over a year at a former rubber-band factory in the Kentucky countryside to create his patchwork of lush psychedelia and Beatlesesque pop. "I’d get up and go outside, see a butterfly and connect that with some impulsive thought I’d had three months ago and suddenly a song I’d been working on would make sense.”
On their third full length, The Blue Stones fully capture the controlled chaos and combustible energy of the duo’s live set. It’s an incredibly solid and well-polished album that stands out in an oversaturated genre, luring you in with rocking riffs and keeping your attention with catchy, driving rhythms and the occasional calming reprieve.
Where I’m Meant To Be’s winding hybrid sound and refined collective character marry cool confidence with bright energy while jazz, grime and afrobeat harmonize to the highest levels. Full of call-and-response conversations between their ensemble parts, it’s a natural product of years improvising together on-stage.
Named by Pitchfork as one of the most important artists of the last 25 years, Broken Social Scene set the gold standard for indie rock in the 21st century. Old Dead Young is a career-spanning collection of B-sides, rarities, and outtakes pulled from 20 years of 7" singles, compilations, soundtracks, unreleased music, and hard-to-find releases
Gleaming and resplendent, contoured and finessed, another Gallic artwork that has graced the halls of the Louvre is on display. No, it’s not some Renaissance portraiture, but another album from French sons Phoenix, with a Botticelli gracing its cover and actually birthed from the pandemic-induced emptiness of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
Waterhouse catalogs the most intimate, formative, and formative moments of her life through songs. You might recognize her name or her work as an actress and model, but you'll really get to know the multi-faceted artist through her music. Milk Teeth compiles her various non-album singles onto a physical release for the first time.
Whether hunkered in alongside Jack White, Josh Homme, or indeed Iggy Pop, Dean Fertita epitomizes the unflashy sideman. The QOTSA and Dead Weather guitarist’s fluorescent solo venture ranges from zany synth-rock to early-‘70s Beach Boys blissfulness, ever focused on tight songcraft, usually with hot licks sizzling in to fill any looming vacuum.
The musical duo Mount Kimbie present the double album. Die Cut showcases Dom’s work; skipping between hip-hop, RnB, and electronic pop, and featuring a cast of vocalists. Kai’s City Planning twists avant-garde signifiers into a deft and refined statement with sleek beats and stuttering arpeggios layered with scuzz and personality.
Though Greg Brown's songs have been a part of Seth Avett’s listening diet for decades, Seth gained a more profound appreciation once he put his own voice behind them. This collection is an expression of admiration and gratitude for one of his heroes. But it's also a reflection of his own artistry and ability as an interpreter.
Ingested have once again shown that modern death metal is in trustworthy hands. Their Metal Blade debut is a vicious statement of intent, proving that they are no less dominant as a three-piece. It’s an all-around solid death metal album that showcases fantastic songwriting and musicianship throughout.

Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill - Geffen
At long last, the classic Steely Dan catalog is back on vinyl. Led by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Steely Dan released 7 albums from 1972-1980. The vinyl series kicks off with Can't Buy A Thrill (celebrating its 50th-anniversary) which features the band’s breakthrough hits, “Do It Again,” “Reelin’ in the Years,” and the recently viral, “Dirty Work.” 180-gram LP.
Alicia Keys - Santa Baby - Alicia Keys Records
The 11-track album will feature Alicia Keys' soulful, raw, fresh reimagining of seven beloved holiday classics as well as four original songs written by Keys. The album was recorded this summer while Alicia was on her sold-out European tour. "I love this music! It feels so good!" says Keys. "I picked each song based on my all-time favorites and I wrote the new ones based on real holiday emotions and stories. The holidays are such a beautiful time to slow down, be with the ones you love and make meaning! Santa Baby is definitely going to be the perfect holiday soundtrack. I can't wait for you to fall in love with it."

What's New 10-28-22
Inspired by old western film scores and vintage Latin American sounds, Hermanos Gutiérrez's new Dan Auerbach-produced album El Bueno Y El Malo takes listeners on a hypnotic and sensual instrumental journey through a haunted landscape where the haze of the desert meets the blue of a Kodachrome ocean. *Indie Exclusive Blue & White Opaque Marble LP*
One of the most important works of electronic music and modern classical, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Includes additional selections from Oldfield's ouvre that have never before been performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with the London Contemporary Voices Choir.
With their 10th album, the nu-grass pioneers offer an evocative look at life’s uncertainties. Alpenglow is an affecting album, one that creates a supple sound from its blend of fiddles, banjos, mandolins and musings. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine a more emotive offering overall. *Indie Exclusive Coke Bottle Clear LP + 7”*
A party platter of stanky jams, silken R&B, jazz, and pop-funk, We Never Stop features several guest appearances, including Chic guitarist, producer, songwriter, and three-time GRAMMY Award-winner Nile Rodgers. Give the people an invigorating beat, some swanky sax uplift, and watch the pain melt away.
Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Deep Purple) speaks his mind as loudly as possible on his eleventh full-length offering Belly Of The Beast. Joining forces with producer Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain, Lindemann), the New Jersey-born powerhouse conjures up the kind of heavy metal that not only makes you throw your fist in the air, but also makes you think.
Onward’s resurrection by founding member and international guitar legend Toby Knapp. Of Epoch and Inferno features new vocalist Robert Van War, best known for his tenure with US Power / Heavy Metal act Attika. A supreme return in top form from one of America’s most popular and celebrated progressive Heavy Metal bands.
Dead Cross is a snarling beast from some of music’s most experimental and hardcore musicians: Dave Lombardo (drums), Michael Crain (guitar), Justin Pearson (bass) and Mike Patton on vocals, but at its core it’s a group of friends having fun, paying homage to the music they love and asking music fans to come along. *Indie Exclusive Glass Coffin LP*
The pioneers of blood-soaked “Gore” Metal return with the macabre culmination of decades upon decades of nightmarish riffs, obliterating blast beats, and hellish screams from the very depths the band crawled out from. The most fun you’ve ever had being disgusted! *Indie Exclusive Blood Red LP*
Midnights is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face - the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout Taylor’s life. It’s a thread tying where Swift has been and where she’s going—referencing her old material while making leaps and bounds forward.
This is a love letter of New Orleans. Not strictly classical, jazz or ambient electronica but rather a body of “movements,” Pigments is an expressive soundscape that is an immersive passage through the city as seen through the eyes of a young Black girl with dreams to paint her future with the pigments given to her. *Indie Exclusive Opaque Baby Blue LP*
Reasons In Decline is not a last grasp at relevance from a band past their peak. It is a vital addition to an impressive catalogue from a group who deserve your attention. It’s one of those rare reunion albums that satisfies a need, even if it doesn’t land as hard as some may have hoped. *Indie Exclusive Red & Purple Swirl LP*
A Family Christmas is beautiful, intimate, and warm. The Bocelli family sings to you from the sanctuary of their own sitting room, by their fire, relaxing as they momentarily switch off from the rest of the world. It is the sound of a family taking a precious moment to be with each other and celebrate what is truly important.
The songs here are still short and bittersweet, but there's more weight to them on the whole, as Kline negotiates self-examination, affection, regret, and apprehension. Their unique sound of breezy guitar-rock paired with simply beautiful, intimate lyrics make this album truly feel as though it was shaped by a delicate hand. *Limited Edition Clear LP*
Four years after Simple Minds returned to form on Walk Between Worlds, they emerged more confident on their adrenaline-fueled 19th album. Here, with conviction and confidence, they wield pulsing synths, arena rock drums, silvery-sounding guitars, and Jim Kerr's dry, emphatic vocals for a cache of fine songs. *Indie Exclusive Transparent Orange LP*
Drawing comparisons to Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson for his signature, cavernous vocal and gritty, go-your-own-way charisma, Williams returns with is long-awaited sophomore album. Waging Peace is rooted in country tradition and a bold, against-the-grain swagger, accompanied by Williams' organic twang and retrofuzz.
Like Motörhead before them (albeit dealing in languid grooves rather than pedal-to-the-metal noise), the song appears to remain the same over the course of a long and brilliant catalogue, but like Motörhead, Clutch's genius lies in their inherent them-ness. And though change is small, slight, and un-radical, theirs is a creative spring that remains deep and plentiful.
Spirits further proves Nothing More’s expertise in the rock genre and beyond, documenting the past two years’ desperation and isolation of lockdown, the spiral of substance abuse, the pain of broken relationships and survival in self-reliance while summarizing the band’s mission: reflect, provoke, inspire. *Indie Exclusive Red w/ White Swirl 2LP*
Like its sibling Unlimited Love, Dream Canteen benefits from the positive energy of these four friends just having fun in the studio, and is designed for listeners to plug in and bliss out. It’s a surprisingly introspective set filled with references to forgotten actors, classic bands, and, most tellingly, decades-old Chili Peppers songs. *Indie Exclusive Alternate Cover Gold LP*
