Off the heels of the release of the first single in 10 years, Tortoise present an EP of "Oganesson" remixes, rounding up collaborators and friends alike to give their unique takes on new Tortoise, including poet and activist Saul Williams, legendary mastering engineer Heba Kadry, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney, indie heavyweights Broken Social Scene, and International Anthem's own Makaya McCraven. Saul Willams uses his cut to create space for his poetry, laying out a cryto fight facism and battle oppression in a poignant and timely fashion. Heba Kadry takes "Oganesson" underground, with a four on the floor focus that catapults the intricate synth interplay in a reverberant dancehall classic. Patrick Carney's take is immediately active and tastefully compressed, calling attention to the the fundamentals via percussive layering and an enhanced grit of the grooving bassline. Broken Social Scene brings the tempo down, launching "Oganesson" into a new wave-adjacent territory, digging into the darker side of the band's instrumental arrangement to highlight it's cinematic qualities, now convincingly primed for the big screen. Makaya McCraven gives "Oganesson" his signature treatment, with an uncanny ability to make a tight groove an even more well-oiled machine by effortlessly swapping the 7/8 for 4/4.
