About This Release
Underrated as a vocalist, Little Walter Jacobs' singing talent was always bound to be outshined by his more evident skills as a virtuoso blues harp player. Arguably the most influential and widely-copied "Mississippi Saxophonist" in recorded history, Little Walter may have taken elements from earlier stylists such as the two Sonny Boy Williamsons, but his resulting sound was something new and startling and powerful and totally original, and once he had made his mark on the 1950s Chicago music scene, it became unthinkable for any blues band to perform without featuring a harp blower.
