Masayoshi Takanaka's landmark 1st single ""Sweet Agnes,"" released in 1976, is being reissued on 12-inch, 45 RPM clear blue colored vinyl. The jacket is a reproduction of the 7-inch record featuring a cute close-up shot of Agnes Lum, and the title track, written as the theme song for the short film ""Agnes Lum, Lover of the Sun,"" released that summer, is a fusion number perfect for summer. The B-side track, ""Tokyo Reggie,"" is a song featured in the film, with lyrics by Yukihiro Takahashi. It's a city pop killer tune with Takana on vocals, and is from his first album, ""Seychelles,"" which has gained particular popularity overseas in recent years. Both songs are now among the world's most popular tracks. Agnes Lum, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, was a super idol who sparked ""Agnes Lum fever"" among young people at the time through her numerous appearances in commercials and gravure photos. In September 1976, the movie ""Agnes Lum, the Sun's Lover"" was released, and her visit to Japan in November 1976 caused a huge sensation, attracting significant media attention. It is said that the characters ""Marin-chan"" from the pachinko game ""Umi Monogatari series"" and ""Lum-chan,"" the heroine of the manga ""Urusei Yatsura,"" were modeled after her.
